Nvidia Control Panel not opening

 February 1, 2021

By  Gregory

Every gamer has faced NVIDIA Control Panel not the opening problem in their gaming career. I always end up having this particular problem in my copy of Windows, and I ended up blaming the operating system for major errors. However, I started to use Radeon Graphics Card and learned that NVIDIA software is not properly optimized for the older cards. The latest drivers focus on the modern GPU’s such as RTX editions, and they do slack a little behind when it comes to older GPU’s such as GTX 1050, GTX 960, and more.

Uninstall NVIDIA Graphics Controller in Advanced Mode

I call this method “Ultimate Solution” for every NVIDIA GPU consumer because I was able to solve the problem several times on multiple occasions. In the past, I had GTX 1050 and GT 430, which met a similar fate during the RTX release period, and I’m not blaming anybody here. Don’t fear about further adverse effects because I have implemented this method several times to my GPU controller program. Allow me to guide the readers on how they can implement the ultimate solution without errors.

Step 1: Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). No need to worry about infecting threats because I have been using DDU for years, and it has always worked for me.

Step 2: Extract the downloaded folder, and save everything opened in the background.

Step 3: Press Windows key + X and then restart the computer while holding the “SHIFT” button. Make sure to hold the “SHIFT” button, when restarting the Windows machine, and that’s important whatsoever.

Step 4: Windows 10 launches troubleshooting mode, and then click on “Troubleshoot” to continue.

Step 5: The next page has two options, and you have to select “Advanced Options” to continue.

Step 6: Select “Startup Settings” among all available options.

Step 7: Click on the “Restart” button to get closer to the target.

Step 8: Press 4 to enable safe mode and login into the Windows PC.

Step 9: Locate DDU downloaded files, and extract them properly.

Step 10: Now, open Display Driver Uninstaller executable file from the extracted folder and run as administrator.

Step 11: Now, select GPU and brand name.

A) GPU.

B) NVIDIA.

Step 12: Click on “Clean and Restart (Highly recommended)” to end the process.

Windows 10 machine will restart and ends up on the login screen normally. However, DDU will uninstall graphics driver and NVIDIA software components from the system, and install a fresh copy of GPU drivers from the official website.

Update NVIDIA GeForce Experience

NVIDIA marketing team started to ship the GeForce Experience program for gamers and professional designers. In my frank opinion, the generic program offers inbuilt driver management and provides ShadowPlay (gamer recorder) for supported GPUs. However, you can utilize the program to fix basic problems that occurs due to unknown reasons.

Download the new GeForce Experience program from the official website.

Update the NVIDIA graphics card driver within the program. The package installer creates a safe environment for Windows 10 PC and overwrites existing GPU driver files. Overall, it is an excellent package for safe installation for newer GPU drivers.

Close NVIDIA Graphics Controller

Not everything is simplified in Windows operating system and we can solve major problems with simple solutions. In this case, you can use Task Manager Functions that provide in-depth information on what’s running and what isn’t running in the background.

Step 1: Open “Task Manager” by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL button from the keyboard or you can use the search bar.

Step 2: Find the “NVIDIA Control Panel Application” or “NVIDIA Control Panel” from the running background apps. Click on the “NVIDIA Control Panel” to expand for more running applications.

Step 3: Select the control panel application and then click on “End Task” to close it.

Step 4: Now, navigate to (Control Panel\Hardware and Sound) and open the NVIDIA graphics controller.

The graphics controller interface should respond to the action, and pop-up on the screen. Microsoft is pushing newer software upgrades from the Windows Update and that could have taken a wrong turn along the way.

Stop & Restart NVIDIA Components

Windows Services designed to maintain communication with software & hardware, and sometimes software could fail to respond to the hardware request. In such events, the control panel or programs don’t function normally because there is no active communication going on in the background. In this case, we are going to rectify the problem.

Step 1: Type “Services.msc” in the search bar, and click to open it. You can also utilize RUN application by pressing “Windows key + R” to open the app.

Step 2: The Windows Services follows alphabetical order, and find “NVIDIA Local System Container” & “NVIDIA Display Container” and perform the action one-by-one.

Step 3: Select one service, and right-click to view more options, and then select “Properties” to continue.

Step 4: A small window will show up on the screen and “Stop” the service, and then “Start” the service one minute later.

Make sure to perform the same action on “NVIDIA Display Container” next. I do recommend the readers to follow the first solution because it has worked for me in the past couple of times. However, Windows Services will bring temporary relief for the time being, but it won’t solve the software problem anytime soon.

Used NVIDIA GPU Scam

Usually, NVIDIA contracts with well-known brands around the world and the hardware last very long. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t say the same for the previous generation GTX graphics card. The used GPU market is a popular choice for millions of consumers around the world, and they offer higher value to the bank. Everyone has gotten scammed one or another way, and you probably have cheaper GT series cards that falsely advertised as GTX series cards.

Step 1: Download GPU-Z from the official website.

Step 2: Launch the downloaded file in portable mode, and the program reveals the true identity of the graphics card.

Cheap Ali Express graphics cards have gotten extremely popular in the used market, and many sellers are taking advantage of the gullible buyers. Such cheaper graphics card deals can rip your wallet off and make sure to read the Terms & Conditions to understand the return/refund policy.

Bottom Line

I provided download links, and proper guidance to fix NVIDIA Control Panel not opening. I do suggest the readers seek professional guidance when the GPU does not respond to the solutions because you could be holding a faulty product.
